We sailed nearly nine days to Lagos, Portugal. A few days were rough while several were ideal sailing - moving along at about 5 knots in light winds and mild waves/swells. I joked one morning “we’re going to have fish for dinner” as I put the line out again (I never catch anything). We laughed. Sure enough we had fish (dorado/mahi mahi) for dinner.
As we got nearer the mainland we had to cross the multiple shipping lanes. Myles called it playing Frogger! Last ship of the crossing is a relief. Not long after that we spotted a few Orcas as the sun was setting. From a distance was ok! Thankfully no interaction with them. Rounding the southwest corner of Portugal we encountered about 20 sailboats in some kind of nighttime race. This was another game of dodging.
When we sailed into Lagos we saw beautiful cliffs. What we couldn’t see from a distance is way more than cliffs. Grottos, caves, beaches and pools - stunning rock formations including a Sphinx, Ganesh, skull, towering twins, an arc de triumph…all seen from a small boat that could weave in and out of the maze. We have enjoyed a week exploring Lagos.
