Since we are staying longer on Sao Miguel due to Caramel's issues (diagnosis of Cushing's disease) we decided to rent a car for a few days. We drove to the north side of the island, revisited the tea plantation and walked around among the tea plants, then drove to the east to a town called Maia. We stopped several places along the way to see the sights. The next day we drove to Furnas, a place we had visited earlier with a tour guide. This time we got to experience the Cozida - a stew-like dish that is cooked in the hot volcanic ground for up to 8 hours as well asn spend time walking around the crater lake.
