We took a whale watching trip in Horta that was truly amazing. We saw six sperm whales, including a mom & calf, plus hundreds of dolphins. On July 8 we left Faial and traveled to the largest island in the Azores, Sao Miguel. It was an overnight sail in good conditions. We arrived and tied up to a T dock when no one from the marina responded ot our radio call. This was fine, as it was very windy just in the last hour of our trip and we were happy to be docked. Two days later we moved to a slip and will spend two weeks here.
We were here for the XXIII Grandes Festas do Divino Espírito Santo which included 4 days of festivities and parades. We also took a tour to the town of Furnas where we enjoyed hot springs, sweet corn cooked in the hot ground, and some beautiful views of the crater lake and surrounding areas including a tea plantation.
