Yesterday we did the tourist thing and took a park service tour boat to Fort Sumter that included great history lessons from a very knowledgable guide. We were a bit surprised how little is actually left of the fort. On arrival the rangers sought about 20 volunteers to take the flag down for the day. The flag was at half mast to honor Rosalynn Carter. The flag was at half mast to honor Rosalynn Carter. It had 33 stars for the current states in 1861. There were actually 34, Kansas had just been added, but any change to the flag had to be done on July 4th. The tradition involves raising the flag slowly to the top before bringing it down altogether. I took a video of the ceremony. Caught the sunset from the megadock while on a walk with Caramel.
