January 24, 2024 Marsh Harbour

Spending the week at anchor in Marsh Harbour. This the largest town in the Abacos, Bahamas. Population is around 6,000. They have restaurants, marine stores, laundromat, hardware store, plumbing store (watermaker filters!) and a large grocery store. We're stocking up on supplies and provisions and we were able to get Caramel groomed with a Bahamian cut. Carson arrives for a visit on 1/27 and we're planning activities and travels for the week he is here.

Marsh Harbour, like all of the Abacos, is recovering from hurricane Dorian in 2019, a category 5 hurricane with winds up to 220mph and storm surges to 23 ft. Dorian devastated and obliterated many of the islands. They are rebuilding and gradually reopening restaurants, shops and services. "Abacos Strong" sentiments are evident everywhere, and there is a sharp contrast between the demolished structures and the new construction. Boat wrecks still dot the harbor were we are anchored.
